Severe Weather
July 13, 2005 marked the end of another historic building in Wauseon.  Built in 1896, The Clermont Manor, formerly the
Hotel Blair, suffered a devastating fire.  At approximately 8:30 AM, Wauseon firefighters were dispatched to a report of
smoke coming from the second floor.  Upon arrival, smoke and heavy fire was found in a rear apartment on the second floor
extending to the third floor.  Firefighters worked for a total of 16 hours n the fire.  Part of the building had to be torn
down during suppression efforts in order to get to hot spots.  The State Fire Marshal was called in to determine the
cause of the fire.  During inspection, the building started to shift and an evacuation was ordered.  The cause of the fire is
undetermined.  Approximately 40 residents were housed in the building and all made it safely out.
