The Wauseon Fire Department is always looking for qualified men and women to add to
our ranks. Applicants will be required to attend and pass both the State of Ohio 36
hour Volunteer Firefighter and the 130 hour Basic EMT courses. Membership also
requires attendance at regular training sessions held on Monday nights at 7:00 PM and
monthly association business meetings held on the first Monday of each month at 7:30
PM. To obtain an application, contact any member or stop in the fire station. Below is
the step-by-step application process.

*Complete 36 hour firefighter course
*Demonstrate proficiency
*Complete 130 hour Basic EMT course

Once you have completed the 36 hour Firefighter course, you will be required to
demonstrate proficiency in various areas with a veteran firefighter. Once proficiency
is demonstrated, you will be taken off probationary status and be able to take the 130
hour Basic EMT course. You will also have opportunities to advance your fire and EMS
training. All training approved by the Chief will be paid by the department.
Firefighting is a exciting and rewarding occupation, but, It comes with numerous
